If you are a skiing athlete and looking to gain a
skiing scholarship this section on skiing scholarships will help you
understand what skiing scholarships consist of.
Skiing
scholarships explained
If you ski and your good at it the a skiing scholarship will be a great option for you. Skiing scholarships are not available in all states for weather condition reasons. So many schools that have skiing programs will be in the northern states. Universities and colleges award skiing scholarships to very talented skiing athletes, which allows’ the athlete to participate in collegiate, intercollegiate matches and national championships. If you are a male or female athlete you are able to gain a skiing scholarship. There are two types of skiing scholarships ( downhill and cross country).
Skiing scholarships - When is the best time?
The best time to go to the USA with a sport scholarship is right after
graduation from high school or up to two years after. Only athletes ages 18
- 24 can compete within the college leagues. Any older and you will be
looking at competing in the NAIA. Coaches are increasingly committing to
younger athletes as this gives them the opportunity to work with the
athletes for a longer period of time. It is also possible to go to the USA
for one, two, three or four years it depends if you wish to seek a bachelor
degree from you time there. We would recommend going to America as early as
possible because this will give you the best chance of gaining a skiing scholarship and turning professional after college.
Skiing scholarships
- How good do you have to be
?
Athletic skiing scholarships
for skiing can be achieved
if you are at the right level. For good
skiing players on the level
of the Division I the chances to receive a full scholarship are relatively
high if you know whom to contact.
In order to gain the opportunities of your profile and thus receive higher
scholarship offers, it is important that you try to participate more in
national tournaments in the time prior to starting U.S college. This will
show college coaches that you are able to compete at a high level
If you are competing at national level then you have a great chance of
receiving a 100% sports scholarship. Coaches will also look at an athlete’s
potential, it’s a vital aspect, as coaches know from experience that even
moderate athletic performance can be boosted immensely with their intensive
training methods. A college recruitment coach will look at a sport CV or the
athlete, photographs, video and our staff advice regarding the athletes
ability.

Skiing training on a skiing scholarship
If you gain a skiing
scholarship you will be expected to practice with the team for around 3-5
hours a day 5 times a week. This would just consist of skiing training and
then you would still be expected to take part in additional strength and
conditioning training. If you feel you are currently lacking strength in
muscle and size then don’t worry. Athletes USA works with Maximuscle a
leading sports nutrition brand that supplies our athletes with leading
sports nutrition products and information on how to reach you potential in
the gym.
This hard training
often allows skiing athletes
to reach previously unattained levels of fitness and performance while
playing at college. This then allows skiing athletes to have the ability to
try-out for their nations in the Olympics.
The
skiing season
The
skiing season always begins
in winter, as you would expect (Winter Term/ October). If you are looking to
join a skiing college team
you need to be signed to the college team around a year before. Some schools
only have two terms fall and spring, so skiing would fit into the fall tern.
